Detail work on a torch-down roof: the upstands, the corners and the places where the field membrane stops being flat. This is where flat roofs leak. The field is a large area doing one simple thing, and the details are dozens of small areas each doing something specific, which is why they take a disproportionate share of the day. Every corner here is cut and fitted as its own piece rather than folded, because a folded corner leaves a void behind it that no amount of heat will close. The membrane is carried up the vertical face far enough to sit above any water that could pond against it, and terminated at the top rather than left to hold on by adhesion alone. On a Toronto row house the vertical surface is often a century-old brick parapet or a shared wall, which means the substrate is not flat, not plumb and not always sound. Those get made good first. Detailing onto a wall that is crumbling behind the membrane just moves the failure date.
