Perimeter and edge detailing on a cold-ply roof, where the field membrane stops being horizontal. The membrane is carried up the upstand and terminated at the top rather than relying on adhesion at the edge to hold it, because the edge is where wind gets underneath a low-slope roof and where a lifted corner turns into a peeled field. The height it is carried to is not arbitrary either. It has to sit above any water that could pond against the wall in a heavy Toronto rainfall with a partly blocked drain, not just above the water level on a good day. Along the perimeter you can also see the membrane meeting the metal edge, which is the joint that has to accommodate two materials expanding at different rates through a Canadian winter. Getting that right is a matter of the order things are installed in, and it is one of the details worth asking any roofer to explain before you sign anything.
