About this job
Cold-ply membrane with a ceramic granule cap, photographed across the field. The granules are not decoration. They are the sacrificial layer that takes ultraviolet light so the bitumen underneath does not, and they give the finished roof a walkable texture that stays reasonable when it is wet. Ceramic-coated granules hold their colour considerably better than mineral surfacing that has only been dyed, which matters on a roof that is visible from a neighbouring window or a third storey. Underneath the cap is the base ply, adhered rather than torched, and underneath that the prepared deck. The seam pattern visible in these frames is deliberate: cap laps are offset from base laps so that no seam sits directly over another. That single decision is worth more to the life of a low-slope roof than almost any material upgrade, because water finds seams and a stacked pair of them is a direct route through both plies at once.
