About this job
Skylight units in place on a completed flat roof, with the curbs flashed and the surrounding membrane made good. This is what the finished detail looks like: the units sitting clearly proud of the roof surface, the flashing lapping over a membrane termination rather than butting against it, and the field running away from the curbs rather than toward them. A skylight installed like this should give roughly the same service life as the roof it sits in, twenty to thirty years, and what usually goes first is the seal between the panes rather than anything to do with the curb. Fogging between the glass is the classic sign that a unit is nearing the end while the detail around it is still sound, which is exactly the situation where a unit can be replaced without touching the roof. That only holds if the curb was built properly in the first place, which is the case being made in every one of these frames.
