About this job
Crew members preparing a flat roof deck ahead of membrane installation. Preparation is the part of a roofing job that is invisible in the finished product and largely decides it. Every proud fastener gets driven or pulled, soft sheathing gets cut out rather than covered, and the whole field is swept, because a single stone left under a membrane becomes a puncture the first time somebody walks that spot. The deck also gets looked at rather than glanced over: this is the last opportunity to find a problem while it is still cheap, and the difference between finding a soft joist end now and finding it in three years is most of the cost of the eventual repair. On a re-roof, this stage is also where the honest conversation happens. If what comes to light under the old roof changes the scope, it gets photographed and priced and agreed before anyone carries on.
