About this job
Moving and staging roofing materials on a flat roof before installation begins. This looks like logistics and is partly structural. Rolls of modified bitumen are heavy, and a pallet of them concentrated on one bay of an older Toronto deck is a real point load on framing that was never sized for it, so material gets distributed across the roof rather than stacked where it happened to land. Staging also decides how the day runs. Material placed where it will actually be used means the crew works forward across the field instead of walking finished areas, and a roof that is not being crossed repeatedly while it goes down is a roof with fewer scuffs and fewer chances of debris under a sheet. On a residential job the route the material takes to get up there matters as well, which is why access is something we agree before the first day rather than discover on it.
