About this job
An attic space build-up after the framing and decking are complete and ready to receive the roofing system. This is the handover point in a job that has two distinct halves, and the reason we do both rather than subcontracting one is that the join between them is where responsibility usually gets lost. When the same company frames the build-up and installs the membrane over it, there is no argument later about whether a problem is structural or a roofing defect. The deck in these frames is continuous, supported and swept, the falls are built in rather than left to be corrected with tapered insulation, and the perimeter is ready for the upstands the membrane will need. From here the sequence is the ordinary one: base ply, cap ply, details, edge metal. The difference is that all of it is going onto a deck whose condition is known rather than assumed, which is the single biggest predictor of how long the finished roof will last.
